Welcome to Sunny Govan Community Radio

International Womans day March 8th 2010

Each year around the world, International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8. Hundreds of events occur not just on this day but throughout March to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women.

On Sunny Govan Community Radio we will be broadcasting a series of features and programmes throughout the week, highlighting this work both locally and globally

We will be featuring the work of women, womens groups and other agencies, working towards equality and highlighting the issues that effect women and their community.

Organisations, governments and women's groups around the world choose different themes each year that reflect global and local gender issues.  This years theme is Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities, Progress For All.

Sunny Govan March Fundraising:

March is Sunny Govan Community Radio’s fund raising month.

This is when we raise funds for our station and development activities by organizing fund raising gigs which will include local musicians, roadshows, raffles and sponsorships.

As you know, Sunny Govan Radio is more than just a radio station.  We are a Scottish registered charity who support individuals, community groups and voluntary organizations – whether they are pupils from the local schools, omen's groups, vulnerable families, people with extra needs, or difficult circumstances.  Our volunteers who are active in their communities everyday, can talk about counseling, recycling, climate change and poverty issues from Glasgow to Ghana!

We are able to get information into peoples homes where other agencies cannot. More importantly, we give local people a platform to express their opinions, and to discuss issues with individuals and agencies making decisions which affect them and their community.

Sunny Govan Radio is a gem in the world of cooperate radio.  Sunny G is local, independent, quality radio, giving voice to the under-represented, speaking at the very grassroots of the community.

Recent quote from Brian McNair, Professor of Journalism and Communications at Strathclyde University. “There needs to be more genuinely local coverage of the type that community radio stations such as Sunny Govan are doing”. (The Scotsman – 5th February 2010)

Support us, please – donations can be received through our Donation Button on our website, by post or telephone.
